Area Profile: Bicton
Bicton is a beautiful residential suburb bordering the Swan River and located only 10 kilometres from Perth CBD. The present suburb of ‘Bicton’ once comprised four grants taken up in 1830 by Alfred Waylen, Joseph Cooper, William Habgood and John Hale Duffield respectively. Bicton was the name of Duffield’s estate in his home village in South Devon, England, and the vineyard he established upon his death in 1859 was also given this name.
Bicton is among Perth’s most exclusive suburbs and is located on the Swan River, north of the Canning Highway. A variety of housing options remain within the suburb, from the original cottages, lots of tin roofs and groups of villas, to multi-million dollar mansions overlooking the Swan River to Mosman Park.
Much of Bicton is situated on limestone base-rock and around a third of the suburb of Bicton is composed of Class-A reserve at Point Walter.
Bicton is a fantastic family-orientated suburb with playgrounds, bicycle and walking paths along the shores of the Swan River. Water sports are central to the suburb with Bicton Pool the primary base for both The Melville Water Polo Club and the Bicton Swimming Club.
There are also several beaches located in the suburb including Bicton Baths and Point Walter. Bicton Primary School is the state-run primary school and is located within the catchment area of Melville Senior High School.
Convenient to Fremantle, Bicton offers a plethora of recreational opportunities both land and aquatic.
